Windows Phone Cortana Is Perfect In World Cup Predictions

by Ed Tsunoda on July 3, 2014

Four years ago they had that octopus who was like 85% accuracy in predicting World Cup games outcomes. The new Windows Phone 8.1 Cortana thing is currently 8 for 8. Beat that iPhone.

Recently, users have been able to ask Cortana which World Cup team she thought was going to win in upcoming matches. Since the update it looks like Cortana has successfully predicted every match that has been played, including the recent Belgium vs US match.

What makes Cortana so good at these predictions is the Bing predictions engine. This engine has been used in the past to successfully determine who would win or lose in events like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars, and now that same engine can be queried by voice thanks to Cortana. The prediction engine uses simple algorithms based on previous performance, weather, and several other elements to determine who will come out victorious
